Cycling is a wonderful way to explore what the Yorkshire Dales has to offer.  You will get to see and feel more of the countryside around you on a bicycle, and what’s more you will be helping protect this beautiful part of the world by moving around in a sustainable way.
There are many routes to experience in the Dales for all level of cyclists, whether you want the challenge of pedaling up dramatic hills, mountain biking across rough moorland, or just fancy a family day roaming through the valleys, cycling in the Dales offers routes for all.
Here are a few suggestions, for the experienced rider you may fancy the challenging 45 mile ride through HAWES AND COVERDALE, where you will encounter some tough hills.
With a distance of 29 miles the circular route starting at SKIPTON takes you to Grassington via Bolton Abbey taking in some lovely scenery on route.
Another gruelling route is the 52 mile round trip from HAWES TO KIRKBY STEPHEN, where you will witness the highest pub in England at Tan Hill. For detailed maps and more information on these routes visit.
The Yorkshire Dales offers some fabulous rides for family cycling, although it is impossible to completely avoid hills in The Yorkshire Dales, the stunning countryside you will witness on these less challenging routes will more than make up for the odd uphill pedal.
The GARGRAVE circular is a lovely 8 mile round trip, and will take you through a few delightful small villages in the southern area of the Dales.
Starting off at SEDBURGH you can encounter a ride through the lovely valley of Dentdale which is around 13 miles along quiet country roads.
A firm family favourite is the 6 mile ride from SKIPTON TO BOLTON ABBEY, which will take you along some scenic back roads, you can then either go back the same route, or alternatively if you’re feeling a little adventurous you could follow routes up through Wharfedale, for detailed maps on these and more family routes visit. www.cyclethedales.org.uk/ctd-home/ctd-rides/ctd-familyrides
